Gursharan Sahota was born in 1960 in Kenya East Africa, but he lived in Bedford England since he was 12. He took up karate at the age of 14 under the instruction of Sensei John van Weenan and was awarded Black Belt 1st Dan four years later. Now a 5th Dan, Gursharan has competed in a multiturde of kata and kumite events, many at national level. The most significant event in his career however was the visit he made to Japan in 1984 when he fulfilled a great ambition by training in a Japanese Dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience proved to be a turning point for Gursharan and on his return to England he realised his visit had been the inspriation he needed to dedicate his future to teaching karate as a way of life. Gursharan opened his first club in Luton/Dunstable in 1981, and this is now the associations Homby. In 1993, having been a teacher os the art for many years, he then formed his own association (TISKA) and he now has a wide network of clubs throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.
